Add a Dash of Patriotism to your Food!
India
is ringing in its Seventy-first Republic Day this Sunday. While vendors sell
tri-colour flags at every traffic signal let’s whip up some dishes which befit
the patriotic flavour of the season!
For
the Fitness-Conscious –
Salad:
Both options - veggie or pasta salads are equally
healthy. While sauces can add the patriotic touch of red, white and green to
the pasta salad; veggies like carrots, cauliflower and radish can do the same
for the veggie salad
Tricolour
Sandwich: This one’s simple and quick-to-make. All you need is carrots, white
bread, capsicum, corn (optional), and sauces.
For
the Rice Lovers –
Tricolour
Pulao: The white of rice can be enriched with carrots and peas for the orange
and green touch
For
the Italian-Cuisine-Buff
Lasagne:
This R-Day give an Indian twist to your favourite Italian dish. Select cheese
for the white colour; a layer of veggies for the green hue; and the last layer
of juicy tomatoes or even sauces for the reddish-orange tint.
For
those with a sweet tooth -
Tricolour
Barfi: A simple barfi can stir patriotic feelings if one uses saffron and green
permitted-colour-additives and layers them in sync with our national flag
Tricolour
Cakes: Here one can play around with the icings for an R-Day friendly cake in
white. Mint and kiwi puree can epitomize green; and mango puree can symbolize
the orange shade.
