YES. After the brutal Veg Biryani and its so many varied versions, it is now time to reveal one more innovative dish for all the people choosing to stay away from any non-veg dish for now and forever!

Shawarma originally hails from the Middle Eastern region. It is mainly a meat preparation made with chicken, beef, lamb or turkey. The meat is usually placed on a spit which is nothing but a vertical grill and roasted until the meat is cooked. Using a knife the meat is shaved to thin slices and then mixed along with hummus, crunchy onions and wrapped with pickled cucumber and green chilli.
Veg Shawarma is an innovative dish made with Soya and vegetables for all the  vegan sweethearts. It is also Known as veg Doner Kebab in Britain and many western countries.

Doner Kebab is mainly made with meat and its major ingredients are non-vegetarian but the culinary enthusiasts have been able to produce a very good substitute of Doner kebab in the form of Veg Shawarma.
This veg delight gives the exact taste and texture of Non-Vegetarian Shawarma without sacrificing your pledge to vegetarianism. Moreover, many who have tried it, have stated that there are quite a few vegetarian dishes made of vegetables which are as delicious and pleasing as the veg shawarma. Ingredients: 


  • 1 cup Kabuli Chana (White Chickpeas) , soaked for 8 hours
  • 60 grams Instant Oats (Oatmeal)
  • 1 tablespoon All Purpose Flour (Maida)
  • 2 cloves Garlic , chopped
  • 4 sprig Parsley leaves , chopped (you can also use coriander)
  • 1 teaspoon Cumin powder (Jeera) , roasted
  • Salt , to taste
  • Black pepper powder , to taste
  • Cooking oil , as required
  • For the Pita
  • 2 cup Whole Wheat Flour
  • 1 tablespoon Active dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup Milk
  • 1 tablespoon Sugar
  • Salt , to taste
  • For Pickled Vegetables
  • 1 Cucumber , cut into julienne
  • 1 Carrot (Gajjar) , cut into julienne
  • 1 Tomato , pulp removed and julienned
  • 1/4 cup Chilli vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1 teaspoon Sugar
HOW TO MAKE VEG SHAWARMA
To make the pita, 
  1. Heat the milk to a luke warm temperature and mix it with yeast and sugar in a bowl.  Later add flour, salt and water slowly and combine to form a soft dough. 
  2. Now form small balls from it.
  3. Flatten it and make it into a roll. Do the same for the rest of the dough.
For the Falafel
  1. Cook the soaked chickpeas until very soft 
  2. Combine all the ingredients, including the cooked chickpeas and blend to make a coarse thick paste.
  3. Add half a teaspoon of oil and pan fry until it is crisp and browned on both sides.
  4. To assemble the shawarma, spread 2 tablespoon of home-made hummus evenly on the bread. 
  5. Place one cucumber, carrot and tomatoes julienne in the middle. Also place the falafels, add chopped onion and roll it tightly.
  6. Wrap the rolled shawarma, fold the end inside and serve.
